These people think I surprised a lot of time to - time automatic and manual changing in any way - if you do not help to go or incorrect information should not say to give everything
If you're in M mode, everything you need to do is press the AV button while the button.
If you are in Av is mainly what you need to do is with the knob
TV mode or P mode does the same thing you do, M is setting the shutter speed and aperture in the same!
Of course you can change. If you are not alone would be useless to the digital SLR camera upgrade. You can change the mode of f-stop Aperture Priority (AV) or manually (M) mode. I have a Canon EOS 30D, and the f-stop is to change the thumb dial in the vicinity of the high status LCD. I think you should do the same on your Rebel. Yes, it's in the manual of confidence in me. Look in the index. Note that in the manual mode, changes not only the opening note, you must choose a shutter speed of reciprocity, and give a correct exposure.
funny .... I have a gun, but only added by saying the handbook and go to page 71 and says page 71:
set the shutter speed, turn the knob
Adjustment to the opening press a button / v, and turn the knob
You need the manual mode for both

In Av, turn the button behind the shutter button (located) in the pictures, when celebrating the AV mode button M to the draft declaration, which is located in the upper right corner of the LCD and turn the knob at the same time .
Try to Shutter Priority (Av) and the use of the wheel near the shutter button to change it. You will see that the change in the viewfinder and on the upper screen.
Chris
Turn the mode dial AV then trigger again the main dial near. or if you explained in maual mode, the manual better than me
Never thought about reading the manual?
